Garland Maurice Jones

Garland Maurice Jones, born on June 22, 1919, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 94. He was the son of Vivian Lee Jones and Bertha Coker Jones, and was preceded in death by his wife, Lorena V. Jones, his parents, and brothers, James L. Jones, V. R. Jones, and R.C. Jones. He is survived by his son, daughter, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

After graduating from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, Texas, he went on to serve his country as a decorated veteran in the United States Air Force in both WWII and the Korean War. He was among the first Americans to deploy overseas in WWII, flying numerous missions against Rommel in North Africa. In Korea, he flew many highly dangerous reconnaissance missions over North Korea under General Douglas MacArthur.

After retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel from the USAF, he returned to San Antonio with his family where he lived until his death. Garland was a proud and active member of the Coker Methodist Church in San Antonio that was originally built by his grandparents in the 1880's. He supported the Methodist Church for over 90 years with his prayers, presence, gifts and service.
