Arthur Albert Gray, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas passed to his heavenly home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the age of 85.

Arthur was born on September 19, 1940, in Llano, Texas. After moving to San Antonio with his family Art met the love of his life, Joyce Edith Hampton in the 3rd grade. He later attended Sam Houston High School where he became a football star. Joyce and Arthur married immediately after graduation before he continued his football career on scholarship at Southwest Texas State University. After attending college Arthur accepted a position at City Public Service where he retired as the Superintendent of the Gas Department after 42 years of service. Following his retirement from CPS Energy, Art served among the first Elders of Grace Bible Church working tirelessly and faithfully in this capacity. He also proudly served as a Master Mason at Anchor Lodge #424 in San Antonio. One of his most fulfilling accomplishments was when Arthur and Joyce worked as Chaplains for Market Place Ministries. Together they served local businesses and nursing homes, ministering to employees and residents, including Country Care Manor in La Vernia, Pleasanton and Frank Tejeda Veterans Home in Floresville.

Arthur is survived by and will be missed daily by his loving wife of 67 years, Joyce; daughter, Kim Gregg and husband Mike; grandchildren, Colin Gregg (Daisy) and Kayla Jo Hime (Kyle); brother Marvin Gray (Cheryl); numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his sons, John Arthur and Gary Wayne; nephew, Kenneth Douglas Hampton, Jr.; parents, Arthur Albert Gray, Sr. and Imogene Moss Gray; brother-in-law, James W. Hampton.

Arthur’s life will be celebrated at Grace Bible Church, 390 FM 1346, La Vernia, Texas, 78121 on Monday, January 19, 2026. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm followed by service at 2:00 pm. Pastor Erin Weaver will officiate the services.
